Congratulations to the 5 winning schools in our Canteen Change-Up competition!

We asked you to share with us a change that you've made to improve your school’s food environment. It’s always a pleasure to see such positive changes happening around the country. Here are the winners, and the changes they made to enter the competition.

Marcellin College – Auckland

A Food Technology teacher started up a herb garden at school, produce from which now get used in student’s cooking. Students are taking ownership of the garden and learning valuable gardening skills.

Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Mangatuna – Tolaga Bay

Staff have replaced a weekly Takeaways order with healthy meals made within the kura. This has even proved to be self-funding while being reasonably priced.

Fielding High School – Fielding

The canteen has been advertising a healthy combo meal. They've also put up displays comparing how much sugar and fat are in popular food and drink options.

Purakaunui School – Dunedin

Senior students of this small school have been preparing a weekly healthy meal which other students can choose to purchase.

Heriot School – Tapanui

Students have been working together to create healthy smoothies once a week.

We trust you’ll have fun making new and delicious, healthy drinks (or anything else you can imagine!) with your fabulous blenders. Each winning school receives a KitchenAid Blender (valued at $320), kindly provided by Choice Catering www.choicecatering.co.nz.

We only wish we had enough prizes to give out to all of our wonderful entries!
