Hamilton Sushi Shop Works With Heart Foundation to Enter School Market
14 January 2016
Party Sushi Café in Hamilton is a well known outlet that has been looking at ways to extend their business. Cracking into the school lunch market was one way in which to do this. Yan Su, owner of Party Sushi Café, recently attended a Fuelled4life food expo in order to obtain more information about gaining an advantage over their competitors in the school lunch market. As schools are more often now requesting the foods provided are healthy, Yan was advised that having their products meet the fuelled4life ‘Fresh Made’ criteria was a great advantage.
Initially their sushi didn’t meet the guidelines due to a high salt content, however with consultation and advice from a Heart Foundation nutritionist, they managed to reformulate their recipes to meet the guidelines. They did this gradually over a period of time so customers wouldn’t notice a big difference. Having done this their sushi then met the Fresh Made ‘everyday’ guidelines and could be promoted as a healthier choice with the Fresh Made endorsement.
Yan reported that several customers did notice the change and disappeared for a couple of weeks. However, a few weeks later, they all came back! Ingredients are chosen carefully and freshness is always their priority – which is what her customers come for. The changes have had no negative impact on Yan’s business and can only improve their foothold in the schools market.
We applaud Yan and her team for committing to these changes which will benefit her business and the health of Hamilton’s children.
